Jamaican manufacturing giant Seprod Limited has sold International Biscuits Limited, the company behind popular snacks like Butterkist and Snackables.
The move is part of Seprod’s strategy to simplify its business and strengthen its finances after several years of expansion across the Caribbean.
For everyday Jamaicans, the change should not affect what you see in stores. Butterkist biscuits will continue to be produced, and Seprod will still distribute the products in Jamaica and export markets for the next five years. The company also confirmed that employees will keep their jobs, so there is no immediate disruption to staff or production.
The real reason behind the sale is financial strategy. Seprod has grown quickly in recent years through acquisitions, including expanding its regional distribution network. That growth also increased its debt. By selling IBL, the company can generate cash and reduce that debt while focusing on the parts of its business that generate the strongest returns.
The company closed 2025 with revenue of about $153.6 billion and nearly doubled its annual profit to around $5 billion.
In simple terms, this deal shows how large Caribbean companies are adjusting their strategies. Instead of trying to do everything, they are focusing on the businesses that make the most money and scaling them across the region.
For consumers, the snacks stay the same. But for investors and the Jamaican economy, it signals a shift toward stronger balance sheets and more focused regional growth.
